EXCUSE ME

Since Christmas Day two stories have seemed to dominate the news shows, the attempted terrorist attack on Northwest/Delta flight 253 and the Christmas Day arrest of actor Charlie Sheen for an alleged attack on his wife Brooke.  Last night the police released the tapes of the 911 call made by Sheen's wife which led to the arrest and though Brooke has now recanted her story prosecuters are moving ahead with their investigation.

This morning I turned on the Today Show and was greeted by NBC Legal Analyst Dan Abrams and former Us Weekly editor Janice Min, who discussed the incident from two different aspects.  Dan explained that the Charlie could be sentenced to as much as 8 years in prison if convicted of the assault and even with a plea bargain some jail time would be involved.  All this would depend on their investigation and with Brooke's recanting of her story the prosecutions job became a bit harder.

Amy Robach then spoke to Janice Min about the  PR aspect of the situation.  Ms Min explained that Charlie has abused women in the past, accidentally shot Kelly Preston, his then fiance in the arm and still won awards and received  roles.  She made the comment that Charlie was teflon and has survived everything.  She also pointed out that women seem to like the bad boy image Charlie has and as a result give him a pass when it comes to such behavior, while this may be true I think Ms Min doesn't give the viewing public the credit they deserve to say that's enough.

What I found most disturbing about Ms Min's comments were, as I said above, she doesn't give the viewing public, especially, enough credit to say "that's enough."  In my opinion people have come to realize that some celebrities aren't perfect and sometimes can even become a Mr Hyde in certain situations and should no longer get a pass when it comes to things like spousal abuse, just as they won't give the average citizen in the same situation, abuse is still abuse.

The last I heard was  that Charlie has returned to LA and Brooke is still in Aspen, but they have decided to seek counseling to deal with the issues in their marriage. Will things work them self out, will Charlie return to his old ways only time will tell.  I trulu hope Brooke takes a long look at the situation lets her head make the decision about her future and not her heart.
